Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus)
Oyster mushroom belonging to Class Basidiomycetes and Family
Agaricaceae grows naturally in the temperate and tropical
forests on dead and decaying wooden logs or sometimes on
dying trunks of deciduous or coniferous woods. Due to
increase in technology mushrooms now are also grown on
decaying organic matter. The mushrooms can be grown in door
by using similar organic substrates made from various dead
organic matters such as straw (rice or wheat), saw dust,
sugarcane bagasse, banana leaves, cotton waste from textile
industry etc. This gives a similar nutrients and floavor
like which grows naturally in the forest. The benefit to
consuming indoor grown Oyster mushrooms is that people know
what they are getting and they get to enjoy them. But please
don’t pick for consumption unless you are 100% positive of
identification; if in doubt, throw it out or get an expert
to confirm your identification).
Oyster mushrooms have a milder flavor and more tender
consistency than
some other mushrooms but they do hold their own.
With a sweet woodsy taste, Oyster mushrooms are also quite
versatile and substitute well into many mushroom recipes.
We consider them quite exemplary in any egg dish, great in
omelets, soup, stew, quiches and fritattas.
The fruit bodies of this mushroom are distinctly shell or
spatula shaped with different shades of white, cream, grey,
yellow, pink or light brown depending upon the species
Hertu Farms grows with passion the following different
